The Board of Trustees of the Parrish Art Museum announced the appointment of Melanie Crader as the new Deputy Director, effective February 22, 2022. With 14 years of professional experience in art institutions including the Hammer Museum and the Menil Collection Over 8 years in the industry, Crader has extensive experience in managing resources, people and operations, and leading interdepartmental teams to achieve common institutional goals. As a museum professional, she bridges the creative, financial and operational fields through her expertise in the curatorial process, financial administration, risk analysis, education, human resources, public engagement and public safety and security.

From the first meeting with her last fall, we knew that her creative nature would combine with her leadership and management skills to ensure that the Parrish continued to offer the top quality exhibits and programming for which the Museum. is known.
For the past eight years, Crader has served as Director of Exhibitions and Publications Management at the Hammer Museum, UCLA, Los Angeles, where she was responsible for the financial and administrative oversight of all curatorial initiatives, exhibitions and publications. Managing the institution’s exhibition program, she has collaborated with local, national and international institutional partners including the Met, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the MCA Chicago, the Walker Art Center, the Stedelijk Museum and the Pinacoteca de São Paulo. . Crader provided financial and administrative oversight of several museum departments, managed a publications program, and developed a long-term exhibition and publication budget, among other accomplishments. She has been actively involved in key committees including senior staff, digital strategy, staff engagement, diversity and inclusion, and most recently the COVID-19 working group focused on reopening the museum. .
During his six years at the Menil Collection in Houston, Crader managed the operating budget and exhibition program, led a variety of special projects including institutional publications, oversaw major digital infrastructure initiatives and implemented long-term budget planning for construction projects and a fundraising campaign. . Prior to entering the non-profit sector, Crader worked in the marketing and communications department of an international investment firm.
Artist and educator who taught at the university level, Melanie Crader holds an MA in Fine Arts from Ohio University, Athens; BA from McNeese State University, Lake Charles, LA; and completed the Banco Santander W30 program, UCLA Anderson School of Management. Crader is a member of International Exhibition Organizers and has been actively involved with North American Exhibition Organizers (AEO) for the past 10 years as a member and member of the Steering Committee since 2017. For several years she served on the Board of ‘Directors of Directors and was a member of the board of directors of DiverseWorks Art Space, Houston.
